Violin concerti - your opinion?

Am I alone, or does many people just hate the screeching and 'complicated' (can't really think of an adjectives here. Like when the composer tries to fill in anything longer than a crotchet with fast notes) of the violin when the composer tries to make it virtuosic? I believe they are trying to model the later violin concerti over the piano concerti, as I don't see this 'problem' in the early violin concerti (Tartini, JS Bach etc.). Anyone else annoyed by this, or want to defend the Violin Concerto?
