Chances of mexican ancestry?

My grandmother is part spaniard and her dads family's ancestors came to Mexico during the 1700's from Spain, then traveled to California. And she tells me there is no Mexican in me but i've convinced myself there is some. how possible is it to keep a straight spanish line for 200+ years in california?.
