Why are we all nice with France?

Aren't they our traditional enemies? Weren't we fighting each other since the very dawn of both our histories? And now the French head of state can causally dine with Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, who is, by the Grace of God, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of the Commonwealth realm.
